Reclaiming the balcony

The state of my balcony is closing in on the absurd. The plants seem to slowly trying to reclaim what once was their non-exploited soil. Grounds that now, and since about 60 years back, is the site for my house and several other. I am aware of my sole responsibility by putting them there. Or wait, I can put some of the responsibility on my mom for first of all the indoctrination of plant love, and second of all supplying me with many of the flowers and also storing them over the winter enabling them to survive for the next year.

Blame sharing in all its glory, doesn't stop my flowers from going berserk. There are flowers all around the top edge of the balcony, flowers in pots filling up about 2/3 of the area of the concrete floor of the balcony, and there are flowers hanging in pots from the inner rim of the balcony, and also flowers groing from pots on the ground under the balcony, crawling all the way up along the outside of the balcony. I believe my subconscious goal is to one year put so many flowers on my balcony that you can no longer see the green corrugated sheet metal forming the actual balcony.

However berserk the plants are, I am afraid that goal will not be reached this year. I will have to come up with a better strategy than the current. A way to put the flowers in more levels of the balcony, than just on the ground, hanging from the balcony, and on the top edge of the balcony. I think I will be needing more bricks, tree stumps and other items allowing a more variable elevation of the balcony floor. And also more pots hangning from the balcony, and even more flowers groing up from the ground under the balcony, covering the outside of it. Some year I hope I'll manage. It is really the best moment of the day, when I get to water my plants having been sitting in the warm sun all day, removing withered plant parts, and waiting while the incredible smell of moist warm soil fills the air.

Days like this, places other than my balcony seem far away.

Your green thumb has served you well, as have your photography talents.

My wife is constantly spending hours in our yard, tending to her flowers and garden. It's one of her all time favorite interests and makes her very happy.

Looks like it does the same for you.

Ciao!

Well actually, to tell the truth, it is all of my green fingers that has served me well (cause here the expression is "to have green fingers", not only the thumb).

The hardest thing with the balcony is to know where to look (besides knowing where to stand), there are just so many flowers, so pretty. Tonight another new type of flower started blossoming, will upload the picture soon!

Send my regards to your wife, and wish her continued good luck with her garden. Sometimes even the most experienced gardener just needs some luck. Like me today; after more than 14 days of no rain, it finally came pouring down for a few hours. This means I can stop the tedious work of carrying cans of water from my apartment down to the garden, over and over again. I can at least skip today, but I am sure it will be needed
tomorrow again.

Nice to hear from you!

I can see just what you mean. The garden seems to advance as if it were animated. In our garden we have a couple of plantings of nasturtiums which just grow and grow till they've taken over the world. So you have to be careful where you plant them.
We moved into our bungalow almost 2 years ago and are still getting a former grass patch shipshape. The task is almost done but it has made gardening a fulltime job this year.
This week the weather is hot and there has been the chance to sit and relax in the garden and enjoy the many colours and shapes. It is my idea of heaven!
